Damian Anthony Gross was born August 26, 1951, to Alban and Lavina (Kaufman) Gross on the family farm near  Earling, Iowa.  He grew up in Earling and attended grade and high school at St. Joseph’s. He graduated from Harlan High School in 1970. He then attended Iowa  Western Community College and received his Associates of Arts Degree in Auto Mechanics. Damian enlisted into the Iowa Army National Guard and proudly served his country. Damian owned and operated the Gross Skelly Gas Station in Logan. Damian married Judi Grothe on  December 18, 1976, in Council Bluffs, and the couple lived in Missouri Valley and then Logan. Damian owned Midwest Iowa Realty and Midwest Builders; where he built custom homes. He also built the Logan Carwash and operated Tri M, a dumpster roll off business, as well as kept busy with several rental properties.

Damian was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Logan. His passion was his church and serving God. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was recently granted his Fourth Degree Knighthood. Damian had been actively involved in Boy Scouts and served as a Scoutmaster at the National Jamboree. He loved to hunt and fish. Damian and his brothers enjoyed an annual fishing trip to Northeast Iowa for over 40 years. This trip later included his sons. He loved riding his Harley, making sausage and jerky, and watching his sons in all their    sporting events. Most of all, Damien cherished being a father to his three sons.

Damian died Friday, March 1, 2019, at his home in Logan, Iowa at the age of 67 years, 6 months, and 3 days.

Damian was preceded in death by his father; sister, Mary Ann Lapke; nephew, Chad Erlbacher; and brother-in-law, Tom Leuschen. He is survived by his three sons, Mathew (Jamie) Gross of Woodbine, IA, Martin (Rachael) Gross and Michael (Sara Sales) Gross all of Ames, IA; four grandchildren; three step-daughters,  Molly, Megan and Jenna; 10 step-grandchildren; mother, Lavina Gross of Earling, IA; seven siblings, Joan (Bill) Erlbacher of Earling, IA, Kathleen (Michael Loumann) Leuschen of Flower Mound, TX, Duane (Liz) Gross of Omaha, NE, Dean Gross of Cedar Rapids, IA, Declan (Gayla) Gross of Earling, IA, David Gross of Des Moines, IA, Jeanne (Tom) Filbey of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, Edward  Lapke of Dunlap, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
