Elaine Theodora (Dai) Ruhde was born on October 5, 1938, to parents Theodore and Hattie (Doidge) Dai in rural Moorhead, Iowa. Elaine was raised in the Moorhead and Dunlap areas and attended country school through eighth grade and graduated in 1956 from Dunlap High School. After graduation Elaine started working at Mutual of Omaha. Elaine married Harold McCord in June of 1957. To this union three children were born: Debra, Cheryl and Keith.
Elaine worked for Farmland Foods in Denison and Carroll for 29 years. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, being with her ladies’ club and most of all, her grandchildren.
Elaine was united in marriage to Larry Ruhde on November 29, 1982, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple lived in Carroll where Elaine was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and belonged to the Ladies Quild. After their retirement they spent several winters in the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas.
Elaine died on Saturday, December 14, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer since 1999, at the St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 81 years, two months and nine days.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; daughter, Debbie Petersen; and two sisters, Sandra Emswiler and Pamela Lehan. She is survived her husband, Larry Ruhde of Carroll, Iowa; daughter, Cheryl and her husband Leo Block of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Keith McCord of Omaha, Nebraska; son-in-law, Ronald Petersen of Westfield, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Dan Block and wife Kelsi and Lindsey Block all of Omaha, Nebraska; one great-grandson, Nolan Block; step-children, Renee Ruhde of Kansas City, Missouri and Rob Ruhde of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Raeola Rolle of Dunlap, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Dave Lehan and Steve Ruhde and his wife Karen all of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
