Myrna Kay Hunt of was born on October 2, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa to Kenneth and Helen (Maguire) Alvis. She grew up in Harrison County, starting her schooling in Orson, Iowa. She attended school in Omaha, Nebraska for a short time before her family moved to Woodbine, where she graduated in 1958. After graduation, Myrna worked as a secretary for Mutual of Omaha. Myrna was united in marriage to LaVerne Hunt on June 21, 1959, at the RLDS Church in Woodbine, Iowa. Myrna continued working secretarial jobs for different businesses including the Omaha Karate School, Account Recovery and Heritage Federal Bank, which later became American National Bank, which is where she retired from.
Myrna enjoyed watching baseball and basketball, especially the Royals and the Hawkeyes. She attended the College World Series for many years. Myrna enjoyed supporting Marti and Kortni in the sports they participated in. She was very proud of her 1955 Chevy and was a member of the Classic Chevy Club. Myrna loved animals of all kind. She loved to feed the birds, squirrels and pigeons. Myrna also gave to many charity organizations that supported animals.
Myrna died on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the Bickford of Omaha Memory Care Facility in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, nine months and 29 days.
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVerne Hunt on February 9, 2018; sister, Marilynn Mefferd; brothers, Merv and Merlyn “Shorty” Alvis; and nephew, Danny Mefferd. She is survived by her daughter, Marti and her husband Scott Stracke of Omaha; granddaughter, Kortni Kay Stracke of Omaha; brother-in-law, Virgil Mefferd; her feline friends, Cookie and Angel; and many other relatives and friends.
