Alice May (Wadsworth) Buter was born December 27, 1916, to Clyde and Flossie (Kessler) Wadsworth near Moorhead, Iowa. She was raised in the Dunlap area and attended Willow Township Country School. She graduated from Dunlap High School in 1934. On July 15, 1935, she married Leonard Buter in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The couple farmed near Dunlap. In 1945 they moved into Dunlap. In 1960 the couple moved to Logan and then back to Dunlap in 1970. Leonard died in December of 1977.
Alice was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. She loved gardening and watching birds. She also enjoyed reading and playing cards.
Alice died on Sunday, February 20, 2005, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa attaining the age of 88 years, one month and 24 days.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Bruce and Clarence Wadsworth. She is survived by five children, Beverly and her husband Clyde Robinson of Merrill, Iowa, Larry Buter and his wife Diana of Grinnell, Iowa, Janet and her husband Larry Hough of Dunlap, Iowa, Susan and her husband Myrlen Hein of Dunlap, Iowa, Randy Buter and his wife Kim of Scottsdale, Arizona; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, William Wadsworth of Dunlap, Iowa, Fidell Wadsworth and his wife Erna of Moville, Iowa; three sisters, Della and her husband Wayne Nelson of Hartley, Iowa, Florence and her husband Edward Crawford of Tallmadge, Ohio, Ruth and her husband LeRoy Deles Dernier of Jefferson City, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
