David Arthur "Art" McWilliams was born on November 17, 1923, to Howard & Belle (Comstock) McWilliams in Pisgah, Iowa. Art graduated from Pisgah High School in 1941. Art started driving the school bus for Pisgah Schools while in high school and continued after graduation. Art married Lois Powell in 1944, and the couple was blessed with two children, Larry and Judy. Art entered the US Army in 1944 and served in the Philippines. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He was discharged on February 28, 1946. After the discharge Art returned to Pisgah to be with his family and he began McWilliams Trucking. Later on he became a dragline operator in the Pisgah area and then worked in Minnesota. He then was hired by the Harrison County Road Department as a dragline operator. Lois died in 1985. Art married Andrea Pedersen Brady on October 29, 1988 at the Logan Christian Church. The couple lived in Logan. Art retired from Harrison County in 1990.
Art was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan and a member of the Pisgah American Legion. He enjoyed reading, collecting toy tractors and putting model cars and trucks together. He also loved to cook.
Art died on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa at the age of 92 years, three months, and 24 days.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lois; son, Larry McWilliams and son-in-law, Keith Martin, four sisters, Inez Johnson, Florence Eskew, Edna White and Frances Alton and two brothers, Glenn and Howard McWilliams. He is survived by his wife, Andrea McWilliams of Logan, Iowa; daughter, Judy Martin of Mapleton, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Linda McWilliams of Pisgah, Iowa; three step-children, Tiffane and her husband Bobby Cassady of Des Moines, Iowa, Kristin Cavalieri and her fiancé Kevin Barnum of Omaha, Nebraska and Chad Brady and his wife Mary of Hornick, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Gladys Carrigan of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister-in-law, Shirley McWilliams Jordan of Phoenix, Arizona; special grandsons, Austin and Adam Haner; special friends, Melissa Haner and Ed Fricke and many other relatives and friends.
