Barb Thomsen

Barbara Ann (Delehant) Thomsen was born August 22, 1938, to Willard and Eileen (Gilmore) Delehant in Omaha, Nebraska. She was raised in Dunlap and attended St. Joseph Catholic School; graduating in 1956. Barb worked at Mutual of Omaha and then attended St. Katherine's for nurse's training. Barb married John "Jack" Thomsen on September 20, 1958, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap. The couple lived near Dow City, she became a farmer's wife and mother and later she worked at Jo Mart's Steakhouse in Denison and at Ettleman's in Dow City.

Barb was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dow City. She was an active member of the Altar Society and she taught Catechism to the youth. She was also a member of the Community Club. Barb was a devoted volunteer to Dow City and very involved at DC-A school while her children were in attendance. She was an exceptional pie maker and a great cook. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and she really enjoyed following her kids' sporting events. Barb also enjoyed travelling with friends and family. Some of her favorite trips included Las Vegas, Washington DC, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and many trips to Chicago to watch the Cubs with the 2008 playoff game being a highlight. She will look forward to watching the Cubs win the World Series from heaven.

Barb died on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at her home near Dow City, Iowa at the age of 74 years and three months.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Thomas Delehant and Bill Delehant; and son-in-law, Jeff Wood. She is survived by her husband, Jack Thomsen of Dow City, Iowa; eight children, Barb "Bobbi" and her husband Denis Herman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeannie Wood of Carroll, Iowa, Steve Thomsen and Kara of Dow City, Iowa, Kenny Thomsen of Dow City, Iowa, Rich Thomsen and his wife Janet of Logan, Iowa, Jackie Thomsen and John Elder of Woodbine, Iowa, Andi Thomsen of Dunlap, Iowa, Jamie and her husband Les Olson of Woodbine, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Hannum of Omaha, Nebraska, Mary and her husband Wayne Mikels of Portsmouth, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
