Barbara Boustead

Barbara Ann (Coffman) Boustead was born August 3, 1924, to Loren and Hazel (Moore) Coffman in South English, Iowa. She was raised in South English and graduated from South English High School in 1942. She then attended Parson College in Fairfield, Iowa for two years and then she attended the University of Iowa and graduated from there in 1946 with a degree in Secondary Education and Literature. Barbara started her teaching career in Woodbine in 1946 where she taught English, Geography, and American Literature. Barbara married Max Boustead on November 28, 1946 at her parents' home in South English. She attended the University of Omaha to get her degree in Library Science and became the school librarian. She was also the prom sponsor for over 30 years. Barbara retired from teaching in 1991. Max died September 19, 2001.

Barbara was a member of the Woodbine United Methodist Church and a P.E.O. member for 62 years. She loved watching sports ~ especially the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She also enjoyed going to the College World Series with Dwight and Tommy Maaske. She thoroughly enjoyed watching her sons and grandkids sporting activities as well. In her early married years she enjoyed watching her husband play Town Team Baseball. Additionally she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Christmas was Barbara's favorite holiday.

Barbara died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 90 years, eleven months, and six days.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Max "Gabby" Boustead. She is survived by her two sons, Bill (Candy) Boustead of Sergeant Bluffs, IA and Jon (Marilyn) Boustead of Woodbine, IA; six grandchildren, Mindy Boustead, Bart Boustead, Abby Boustead, Kurt Boustead, Patrick Boustead and Shelly Jervik; eight great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
