Bernard Hildreth

Bernard Dwayne Hildreth was born January 29, 1937, to Charles and Nina (Crews) Hildreth in Pisgah, Iowa. He was raised in Pisgah and graduated from Pisgah High School. Bernard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Bernard married Doris Moore on May 15, 1959, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The family lived in Council Bluffs and Dubuque where Bernard worked for a construction firm. They moved to a farm near Pisgah. Bernard continued working with construction and also started Hildreth Painting and Construction. Doris died September 26, 2014.

Bernard was a member of the Community of Christ. He loved his family and family gatherings. Bernard and Doris loved to dance. Bernard enjoyed playing euchre, boating, traveling and gardening. He also enjoyed raising and training horses. He rode in many parades and on trail rides. He loved to share his trick horse Pete with everyone. Bernard was a regular at the Old Home Café where he enjoyed visiting with his friends.

Bernard died July 22, 2016, at the Burgess Medical Center in Onawa, Iowa at the age of 79 years, five months, and 23 days.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris; son-in-law, Terry Carritt; sisters, Phyllis Peterson, Helen Welter, Neva Hinkel and Janece Connery; brothers, Charles "Bud," Warren "Swede," Russell, and Arlan Hildreth. He is survived by five children, Terry (Julie) Hildreth of Omaha, NE, Rhonda (Kevin) Johnson of Moorhead, IA, Rebecca Rau and Robert (Lora) Hildreth all of Council Bluffs, IA, and Shelly (Elliott) Ham of Lampasas, TX; 21 grandchildren; two great grandsons; two brothers, Joe (Dorothy) Hildreth of Underwood, IA, and Royce Hildreth of Pisgah, IA; sister, Sandy (Ron) Johnson of Omaha, NE; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hildreth of Woodbine, IA, JoAnn Hildreth of Council Bluffs, IA and Connie Hildreth of Mondamin, IA; brother-in-law, Estal Hinkel of Logan, IA and many other relatives and friends.
