Bertha Bamford

Bertha Marie Bamford was born April 2, 1925, Iowa to parents William Irving and Opal Aline (McHenry) Bamford in Woodbine, Iowa. Bertha was raised in Woodbine and attended country school. She graduated from Woodbine High School in 1943. She then took the Normal Training and began teaching in the country schools. Bertha graduated from Dana College in Blair and continued teaching in Harrison and Pottawattamie County schools. She retired in 1987 after 44 years of teaching and moved to Lakeview. In 1997 Bertha started going to Arizona for the winters. She enjoyed many winters in the Arizona sun.

Bertha was a member of the First Christian Church in Woodbine and the Teacher's Association.

Bertha died on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 86 years, five months, and 23 days.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Beverly Sailors in 1998, Genevieve Clausen in 2003; and two brothers, William Bamford in 2001 and Irving (Bud) Bamford in 2010. She is survived by her four sisters, Kathleen Ellison of Woodbine, Iowa, Jean Burkhart of Logan, Iowa, Virginia Orr of Sioux City, Iowa, Irvalee Ulmer of Florida; and many other relatives and friends.
