Robert Allan Powley was born January 5, 1937, to Stanley and Ethel (Gard) Powley in Woodbine, Iowa. He was raised in the Woodbine area and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1955. Bob started to work at Union Pacific in 1955 and then took a job with Western Electric in Millard, Nebraska. He met his soul mate at a dance in Magnolia, Iowa and married Jo Lamberson on July 19, 1958 at the United Methodist Church in Woodbine. They had their first son, Mike in Omaha and moved to Bob’s grandmother’s farm in Woodbine in 1960 and had two more children, Terri and Mark.

Bob loved farming with his partner, Jo, spending time with his family, dancing up a storm and playing cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed golfing. Bob and Jo retired from farming in 2007 and spent time working in the wood shop creating wood boxes, furniture and many other items. Bob never knew a stranger and loved to tell a joke.

Bob died on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at his home west of Woodbine with his wife and family by his side at the age of 74 years, five months, and seven days.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Jo Powley of Woodbine, Iowa; three children, Mike (Sherrie) Powley of Logan, Iowa, Terri Powley and friend Tim Thares of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Mark (Robyn) Powley of Mobile, Alabama; adopted children, Rick (Terri) Derry of Woodbine, Iowa; grandsons, Heath (Aleacia) Kelley of Mondamin, Iowa, Mike Kelley and Kirsten Baxter of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Zach Powley and Jordan Powley of Logan, Iowa; great granddaughter, Anna Jo Kelley of Missouri Valley, Iowa; two brothers, Jack (Twilla) Powley of Yutan, Nebraska, Bill (Sue) Powley of Fountain Hills, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends.
