Carolyn Ilene (Carrigan) Howard was born on December 17, 1928, to Lyle H. and Evelyn Tillie (Wallis) Carrigan in rural Woodbine, Iowa. Carolyn was raised near Pisgah and graduated from Pisgah High School as the valedictorian. Carolyn married Everett Howard on May 24,1948, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. In 1959, the family moved to Scott County, Iowa near Maysville for Everett’s job.

While in Chicago, she found out about a full-time job opening as a government census taker. She was hired for the position and worked in that career for many years. She also worked in the unemployment and theft crimes divisions. After Everett’s death, Carolyn and Denise returned to the Pisgah area.
Carolyn enjoyed gardening and had an organic vegetable garden and many other flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. Most of all Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family.
