Deloris Darline Moorhead was born on April 26, 1933, near Castana, Iowa to parents Joseph H. and Ella Marie (Olmstead) McCall. At the age of three the family moved to Ida Grove, Iowa and then at the age of six they moved to Soldier, Iowa. After Darline’s father was injured in a car accident the family moved to Spencer, Iowa when Darline was in the fifth grade. Darline graduated in 1951 from Spencer High School and in 1955 from Drake University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Darline began teaching at East Monona Schools in Moorhead. On July 29, 1956, she married George Moorhead and to this union three children were born, David, Paul and Julie. The couple farmed in the Moorhead area and Darline was a substitute teacher for many years. In 1989 the couple started driving truck over the road. They both drove for 12 years.
Darline was an active member of the Moorhead Christian Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, active with the Christian Women Fellowship and a church Elder. She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Volunteered at the Moorhead Cultural Center, President of the East Monona School Board, served on Monona County Compensation Board, as a trustee on the Sioux Township and on the Moorhead State Bank Board.
Darline died on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Gracewell in Denison, Iowa at the age of 90 years, nine months and 15 days.
Darline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; son, David; daughter, Julie; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Katie and Gerald Webb; and step grandson, Danny. She is survived by her son, Paul Moorhead and his wife Cyndi of Moorhead; grandson, Johnathan Moorhead of Moorhead; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Moorhead; step grandchildren, Jesse and Katheryn; two sisters, Clela Anderson and Kathleen and Harold (Sonny) Hansen all of St. Louis, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
