Darrell Watkins

Darrell Dwight Watkins was born on January 30, 1920, in Woodbine, Iowa to Kenneth and Lucy Rose (Bolch) Watkins. Darrell graduated from Woodbine High School in 1938. Darrell was united in marriage to Mary Marcedda Summerfield on August 13, 1942, in Woodbine Iowa. The couple farmed near Woodbine, Moorhead, Dow City and Arion. In 1960 they moved to Arion and built a home. Darrell worked as a salesman. The couple moved to Woodbine in 1986 and to Missouri Valley in 2015. Mary died on May 30, 2017.

Darrell was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Woodbine. After his retirement, Darrell enjoyed wood working, gardening and his life-long passion for playing pinochle and other card games.

Darrell died on Monday, May 14, 2018, at the Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 98 years, three months, and 14 days.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 74 years, Mary Watkins; and sister, Vivian Watkins. He is survived by two sons, Darrell Jr. (Colleen) of Maryland Heights, Missouri, and Merrill Watkins of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Kris (Mark) Immekus of St Charles Missouri, Cynthia Simon of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Mark (Sarah) Watkins of Omaha Nebraska and Merrill Scott (Marcy) Watkins of Maricopa Arizona; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brother, Kenneth Watkins of La Vista, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
