David Moorhead

David William Moorhead was born March 12, 1959, to George and Darline (McCall) Moorhead in Denison, Iowa. He was raised in Moorhead and graduated in 1977 from East Monona High School. He then attended Iowa State University and received his Bachelor's of Science in Agriculture in 1981. While at ISU he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Dave returned to Moorhead to farm with his family. Dave and Jeannie Bray Schmidt have been together since 1984 and the couple was married on July 30, 2010, in Onawa, Iowa. Dave worked for the last 12 years during the winter for the Iowa DOT taking care of snow removal.

Dave was a member of the Christian Church in Moorhead. He was baptized in January of 1971. He served his church as a Deacon and also the vice chair of the church board. He also served on the Moorhead Coop Board, East Monona school board, Amaizing Energy Coop Board and was a member of the Farm Bureau where he held many positions. Dave additionally was a member of the Monona County Cattleman, Western Iowa Feeder Cattle, Spring Valley Township Clerk, Spring Valley Cemetery sexton, Jasper Masonic Lodge #223 in Onawa and the Sioux City Consistory.

Dave died on Friday, August 26, 2011, as the result of a tractor accident at the age of 52 years, five months, and 14 days. Surviving the accident is Dave's trusted canine companion, Zeke.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents; sister, Julie Marie Moorhead; and father, George Moorhead on November 4, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Moorhead of Moorhead, Iowa; three step-children, Jesse Schmidt of Omaha, Nebraska, Danny Schmidt of Moorhead, Iowa, and Katheryn and her husband Tom Rhymer of Sioux City, Iowa; four step grandchildren, Sean, Sydney, Slade and Brayden Rhymer; mother, Darline Moorhead; brother, Paul Moorhead and his wife Cyndi; and nephew, Johnathan Moorhead all of Moorhead, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
