Dean McHugh

Solomon Dean McHugh was born June 30, 1922, to Peter and Esta Ellen (Cox) McHugh in Pisgah, Iowa. He was raised in Pisgah and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1939. Dean married Nina Butts in Rockport, Missouri on July 29, 1943. The couple farmed and lived on the same farm for 67 years. The couple then moved into Pisgah in 2010 and Dean became a resident at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine in February of 2011.

Dean was a member of the Community of Christ in Pisgah. He was the pastor of this church for 12 years. He was a 50 year member of the Moorhead Masonic Lodge. He was also a 33rd degree from the Sioux City Consistory and a member of the Eastern Star. Besides farming Dean enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Dean died on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 89 years, two months and 25 days.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Herbert, Daniel and Dale McHugh; three sisters, Margaret Dunlop, Agnes Lenz and Muzetta Bradford. He is survived by his wife, Nina McHugh of Pisgah, Iowa; four sons, Lonnie Dean (Vicki) McHugh of Pisgah, Iowa; Timothy Allen (Deborah) McHugh of West Liberty, Iowa, Terry Lee McHugh of Pisgah, Iowa, Patrick Lynn (Mary) McHugh of Norfolk, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Kruse of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
