Dean W. McIntosh

     Dean William McIntosh was born on June 3, 1952, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Richard “Snuffy” and Katherine “Katie” (McDaniels) McIntosh. He grew up north of Missouri Valley, Iowa, went to East Liberty Elementary School through 3rd grade and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1970. Dean joined the United States Air Force in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1973, although he continued with the Air Force Reserves out of Sgt. Bluffs, Iowa until 1980. Dean was united in marriage to the love of his life, Pamela Marquardt on September 24, 1977, and they were blessed with four children, Heath, Mark, Ben, and Kelly. He farmed and raised cattle with his brother Don for 50 years, as Dean said, “50 plantings and 50 harvests”. After his retirement two years ago, he enjoyed helping Mark and Boone with harvest and around the farm.

     Dean loved the outdoors and always found an opportunity to enjoy nature. He loved riding his side by side throughout the Loess Hills, around Harrison County, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and in the mountains of Colorado. Dean also enjoyed traveling, skiing, hiking, hunting with the grandkids, and clearing out his cedar trees in the hills. He enjoyed several trips to Europe, hiking the Swiss Alps, around the Matterhorn, Ireland, and Liverpool, soaking in the beautiful Irish countryside and retracing the old stomping grounds of the Beatles with friends. Dean also loved following all his kids and grandkids sports and school events, cheering them on any chance he could get. He spent 25 years on the Harrison County Conservation Board, and was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley. He enjoyed coffeeing with fellow farmers at the co-op and John Deere, often on the same day. Most importantly, Dean loved his family.

     Dean was diagnosed with a brain tumor on June 12, 2026, and passed away at home surrounded by his family on August 28, 2026, at the age of 74 years, two months, and 25 days.

     Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Kenneth Marquardt. He is survived by his wife Pam; children, Heath McIntosh; Mark McIntosh and his wife Dana, Ben McIntosh and his wife Trish, and Kelly and her husband Justin McIntosh; grandchildren, Kali, Emily (Matt), Mason (Leah), Easton, Addison, Alivia, Westyn, William, Erin, Jack, Charlie, Kennedy, and Kash; brothers, Richard and DeAnne McIntosh, Roger and Karen McIntosh, and Don and Vicki McIntosh; mother-in-law, Sandy Marquardt; many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cassie Jensen family to support her cancer journey, the Harrison County Conservation Board, or the Missouri Valley YEA.
