Doris Delphine (Smith) Fisher was born April 4, 1928, to Lloyd and Blanche (Allmon) Smith in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Delphine was raised in Missouri Valley and attended school there. She worked at the Valley Drug Store and the Harlow Bakery. Delphine met John Fisher in 1950, and they married on December 8, 1952, at the Nazarene Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple lived in Magnolia, Dunlap, Missouri Valley and Logan, Iowa. Delphine was a hardworking stay at home mom and farm wife. John died in January of 1982. Delphine became a resident of Rose Vista on February 29, 2016.
Delphine was a member of the Logan Christian Church. She enjoyed raising a large garden and canning the produce. She also enjoyed raising chickens. Delphine was considered a professional when it came to frying chicken. She was also known for her potato salad and pies. Additionally, she was very good at hanging wallpaper. Delphine enjoyed going to garage sales with Ileen Jensen.
Delphine died on October 18, 2019, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 91 years, six months, and 14 days.
Delphine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Fisher; daughter-in-law, Barbara Fisher; three brothers, LaVerne “Bub,” Maurice and Dave Smith; and two sisters, Ellen Rodewald and Phyllis Hendrix. She is survived by her five children, Ellen and her husband John Ganzhorn of Woodbine, Scott Fisher and his wife Kim of Logan, Jim Fisher and his friend Kathy of Council Bluffs, Bob Fisher and his wife Gayla of Treynor, Bill Fisher and his wife Kim of Council Bluffs; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger Smith of Omaha; and many other relatives and friends.
