Jesse Delvin DeForest was born on March 3, 1915 near Woodbine, Iowa to parents Jesse Lonzo and Hazel Fern (Siler) DeForest. He attended Crane Country School. On January 6, 1937 Delvin married Eldora Thomas at the First Christian Church parsonage in Woodbine, Iowa. The couple started farming southwest of Dunlap, farmed in the Pisgah area, northwest of Woodbine and then settled on a farm east of Woodbine. In 1972, the couple moved into Woodbine. Delvin stayed active with farming past his 85th birthday. Eldora died on July 10, 1998.

Delvin was a member of the First Christian Church and a honorary member of the Woodbine Saddle Club. He enjoyed his family, his great grandchildren were very special to him and he looked forward to their visits. Farming and his horses was a favorite topic of conversation of his.

Delvin died on March 6, 2005 at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 90 years and three days.

Delvin was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Eldora. He is survived by his three children, Lloyd DeForest and his wife Pat of Woodbine, Janice and her husband Dr. Ray Koski of Dunlap and Karol DeForest and his wife Connie of Woodbine; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, William DeForest and his wife Berniece of Fremont, Nebraska, Max DeForest and his wife Fern of Springfield, Missouri and Richard DeForest of Nixa, Missouri and many other relatives and friends.
