Dennis "Denny" Eugene Surber was born September 21, 1945, to parents William Henry and Irene Mae (Palmer) Surber in Logan, Iowa. Denny grew up in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1964. Denny went to work at Vickers after graduation. In 1965 he joined the United States Navy and was aboard the USS Markab. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Denny married Lois Kuhlman at the Christian Church in Blair, Nebraska on January 25, 1969. The couple was blessed with three children; Shane Eugene, Shanell Ann, and Michelle Lyn. The couple lived in Logan until 1971 at which time they moved to Woodbine. Denny worked for Kelly Ryan's in Blair, Nebraska, at Great Plains Lumbar Yard, at Whitmore's Home Decorating and as a self-employed carpenter. For the last three years he has worked at the Shadow Valley Golf Course. Denny was a Boy Scout, an avid hunter - especially coons - and a golfer. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was always bragging about his family to anyone who would listen.

Denny died Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Cass County Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 58 years, three months, and 14 days.

Denny is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Danny and Larry Surber. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Lois; three children Shane Surber and his wife Wendy of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shannell and her husband Jody Dickman of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, Michelle and her husband Matt Mullenix of Atlantic, Iowa; six grandchildren Audrina, Kyle, Stetson, Chase, Colin and Emily Rose; three brothers Jerry Surber and his wife Nancy of Logan, Iowa, Kevin Surber and his wife Rosemerry of Denton, Texas, Jeff Surber of Logan, Iowa, one sister Connie Surber of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
