Donald Dewey Cox was born August 29, 1926, to Dewey and Bertha (Benson) Cox outside of Moorhead, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated 8th grade before joining his family working on the farm. He had amazing mechanical skills and an above average knack for problem solving so much of his time was spent fixing equipment, including welding on his and many other people’s farm equipment. Donald was united in marriage to Margaret Miller on September 5, 1947. The couple had their own farm northwest of Woodbine where they spent many years working the ground, always finding a way to make it better.

Donald was known as a researcher. He was always reading up on how to better things and was able to retain that information to put it to use later on. When he was in his tractor you could always hear the country music that he loved so much. He was deeply involved in soil conservation, gardening and horticulture. When he wasn’t on the farm, he stayed updated through extension service-learning classes and was active in the political realm. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycles. Donald was a 33rd Degree Mason and active in the Shriners. He was also a founder of the Hillblazers and organized many events over the years.

Donald died on May 15, 2024, at Azria Health Rose Vista in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 97 years, eight months and 16 days.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; infant son, David; infant brothers, Dewey and Keith; brothers, Larry, Charles and Gary Cox; and sisters, Darlene Malone, Bertha Morton, Janet Archer and Carolyn Archer. He is survived by his five sons, DJ Cox and his wife Judy of Blencoe, Iowa, Daryl Cox and his wife Julie of rural Woodbine, Lauren Cox and his wife Juli of Eldridge, Missouri, Dennis Cox and his wife Michele of Woodbine and Albert Cox and his wife Brenda of Wisner, Nebraska; siblings, Ronald Cox and his wife Linda of Schleswig, Iowa, Patricia Hardy of Moorhead, Iowa and Stanley Cox and his wife Chris of Woodbine, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
