Donald Mether

Donald Dean Mether was born on March 8, 1936 to parents Erwin (Bud) and Wilda Joy (Oviatt) Mether in their house near Magnolia, Iowa. He attended Magnolia school and graduated in 1955.  He lived in Omaha working at Vickers as a machinist and joined the Army National Guard. Don married Jane Herman on May 6, 1961. They were married for 57 years and were blessed with six children.

Don enjoyed farming and worked at Vulcan Industries until he retired in 2001. He enjoyed    working on engines, especially taking an engine everyone had given up on and getting it running. Don loved God, his family, and laughing, especially after scaring his wife.

Don was called home on February 2, 2022, at Azria Health Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 25 days.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane on December 29, 2018; brother, Walter Leroy Mether and his wife, Leota; brother-in-law, Jack Straight; and grandson, Kyler Dobbs. He is survived by his children, Douglas Mether and his wife Sarah of Logan, Richard Mether and his wife Tammi of Moorhead, Deborah Mether of Logan, Denise and her husband Kyle Dobbs of Logan, Dustin Mether and his wife Christina of Magnolia and Derrick Mether and his wife Corrie of Logan; chosen daughter, Deanna Danielson of Logan; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sondra Straight of Logan and Lorita and her husband Jim Rider of Magnolia; and many other relatives and friends.
