Donald Earle Thompson was born July 6, 1939, to Earle and Gladys (Smith) Thompson in Woodbine, Iowa. He was raised in Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1957. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves as a mechanic at Fort Smith in Arkansas. After his honorable discharge he returned to Woodbine to farm. He then started his career as an over-the-road trucker as well as a local trucker. He trucked through 40 different states. Don married Marva Baxter in December of 1962 and the couple was blessed with four children. On December 7, 1980, Don married Elaine (Hodges) Caddell and the couple made their home in Woodbine.

Don enjoyed hunting for deer and mushrooms. He also enjoyed playing cards ~ especially euchre, pinochle and cribbage.

Don died on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 72 years, seven months, and 20 days.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, John Riordan. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Thompson of Woodbine, Iowa; four children, Kim Gibb, Dawn (Andy) David all of Omaha, Nebraska, James (Brenda) Thompson of Onawa, Iowa, Jerone (Catherine)Thompson of Omaha, Nebraska; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two step sons, Jerry Caddell of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Larry (Deb) Caddell of Woodbine, Iowa; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two sisters, Donna (Mel) Doty of Oelwein, Iowa, Doris Riordan of Huntley, Illinois; and many other relatives and friends.
