Donna Archer

Donna Glee (Thiles) Archer was born August 11, 1929, to Edward and Cecil (Kohl) Thiles in Woodbine, Iowa. She was raised east of Woodbine and attended country school before graduating from Woodbine High School in 1948. On August 20, 1948, Donna married James Archer at Donna's family home. The couple lived southeast of Logan on the Archer farm. The couple moved to Missouri Valley in 1971. Donna worked at Ben Franklin and Mode-O-Day in Missouri Valley as well as Moore Brothers' Grocery Store. She also cleaned houses and worked at Pendleton Woolen Mills in Omaha. They owned and operated the Sunnyside Motel for 14 years. In 1994 the couple moved to Woodbine. Jim died November 29, 2013.

Donna was a member of the Woodbine First United Methodist Church. She was active in the church circle, the thrift shop, and the yearly peeling of apples for the Applefest pies. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, stamping, and writing poetry. In 1989 she crocheted a table cloth for each of her children for Christmas. She was also a member of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club.

Donna died on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 87 years, eight months, and 29 days.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James "Jim" Archer; son, Ed Archer; granddaughter, Lynn Marie Peterson and five siblings, Darlene, Edna and Claire Kelley and Bill and Darrell Thiles. She is survived by her six children, Rosetta (Dave) Peterson of Council Bluffs, IA, Don (Nancy) Archer of NE, Rich (Renee) Archer of Boone, IA, Gary (Barb) Archer of Papillion, NE, Chris (George) Dougherty of Missouri Valley, IA, Amy (Kenard) Swift of Woodbine, IA; daughter-in-law, Kathy Archer-Raymond of Omaha, NE; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; step grand and step great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Ada Mesenbrink of Havre, MT, Betty Montemurro of Long Beach, CA; and many other relatives and friends.
