Dorothy Jean (Waldemer) Barry was born on August 25, 1929, to Michael and Alleyne (Lyon) Waldemer near Pisgah, Iowa. Dorothy grew up near Pisgah and attended country school. She graduated from Pisgah High School and then attended Simpson College and was awarded her teaching certificate. Dorothy was a substitute teacher for several years. On May 26, 1950, Dorothy married Lawrence Barry in Woodbine. The couple lived in various towns and states before returning to Woodbine. In 1962, they purchased their farm west of Woodbine where Dorothy was still was residing. Dorothy did the field work while Lawrence took care of the livestock.

Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodbine. She helped with the various duties of the church including making apple pies and working at the Thrift Shop. She had also been very active with the Golden Age Center in Woodbine and enjoyed getting together with her lady friends to play cards and socialize. Dorothy loved to take care of the flowers in her yard and she also enjoyed mowing her lawn. Dorothy's greatest delight was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dorothy died Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, two months and three days.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lawrence on April 17, 1997. She is survived by her two sons, Larry Barry and his significant other Dixie Horn and Roger Barry and his wife Kellie all of Woodbine, Iowa; two granddaughters, Melissa and her husband Dallas Mullock of Kirksville, Missouri and August and her husband Justin Siefken of Woodbine, Iowa; three plus great grandchildren, Morgan and Dena Mullock and Blake Siefken; brother, Mike Waldemer and his wife Carolyn of Pisgah, Iowa; sister, Muriel and her husband Bill Lyle of Sioux City, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
