Dorothy Conyers

d. September 9, 2013

Formerly of Logan, Iowa

Dorothy Lucille (Smith) Conyers was born October 20, 1919, to Hubert and Sara Jane (Shumate) Smith in Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised in the Dunlap area and attended country school. She then moved into town with her much beloved grandmother so she could attend Dunlap High School. Dorothy married Leonard Carrier Conyers on November 13, 1938. The couple lived in Woodbine and Irwin, Iowa before they moved in 1948 to their farm in Logan, where they raised their family. The family attended the First Christian Church. The couple retired in 1984 and moved to Omaha. Leonard passed away in 1986. Dorothy continued to play an important role in her children's and grandchildren's lives. She could always be found at her grandchildren's school and sporting events, and she enjoyed family vacations. She had a lifetime passion for learning and reading. She also enjoyed puzzles, word games and music.

When her health began to decline in May of 2003, Dorothy moved to the Amelia House in Council Bluffs where she remained active in their social events. In 2008 she moved to the Oakland Manor in Oakland, Iowa, where she received kindness and loving care until her death on September 9, 2013, at the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 20 days.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Conyers; and four sisters, Retta Runyan, Opal Schupfer, Hazel Sondag, and Monica Keber. She is survived by her two children, Albert Conyers and his wife Misti of Hancock, Iowa and Lorna and her husband David Castello of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grand-children; five great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
