Earl David Johnson was born July 14, 1928, the youngest son of Guy and Flora (Berger) Johnson. He was raised on a farm west of Dunlap and helped on the farm until his family moved to Dunlap in the sixties. Earl and his brother, Robert, helped area farmers for many years and also worked for McCord Seed Store every spring for 20 years. Earl liked music and had his harmonica in his pocket, waiting for someone to ask him to play it. He enjoyed taking pictures too, so for many years whenever you saw Earl, he always had his radio and camera with him.

After Earl's brother Harvey passed away, Ron and Dorothy McCord became his guardians. He resided with them for a few months and then became a resident at the Dunlap Care Center in November of 1988. Because he was in good health, Earl was about to go downtown every weekday, which really made him happy. He liked to stop in several of the businesses throughout the day and especially enjoyed having lunch at the Dunlap Senior Center. He also spent a good part of this day at Sullivan Supply; until he was no longer able to go downtown.

Earl was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. While at the care center, a couple of kind gentlemen volunteered to take him to church every Sunday. He looked forward to that and especially enjoyed the socializing over coffee and treats after the service.

Earl passed away on May 14, 2020, at the Dunlap Specialty Care Center, at the age of 91 years and 10 months.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Lawrence, Harvey, Robert and Lyle. He is survived by three nieces and two nephews in California; great nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends.

Because of so many caring people in Dunlap, many who became his friends, Earl was able to live a very fulfilling, happy life here.
