James Edward "Ed" Logan was born May 22, 1930, to Everett and Zada (Chappell) Logan in Logan, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Logan High School in 1948. Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. National Guard and then in the Reserves. After his honorable discharge he operated heavy equipment and was on the road crew that built Interstate 29. He then farmed and sold Moorman's Feed. Ed married Patricia Biven on February 3, 1957, at the Logan Christian Church. The couple continued to farm. They moved into town in 1997, and Ed then attended Iowa Western to be a welder and worked at Hedstrom's Concrete in Woodbine as a welder.

Ed was a member of the Christian Church and served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday school teacher, treasurer and youth leader. He also served on the Farm Bureau Board and Crime Stoppers. He enjoyed square dancing, volunteering at the Welcome Center, playing in the Old Timers Band and playing Taps at military graveside services.

Ed died on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Creighton Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 83 years, seven months, and 28 days.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Pat Logan of Logan, Iowa; two daughters, Carol Logan-Brummer and Jeff Roach of Logan, Iowa, Mickey and her husband Dan Steffeny of Decatur, Illinois; four grandchildren, James Logan, Logan, Steffeny, Morgan Steffeny, and Kayla Coberly; and many other relatives and friends.
