Edith Elvera Olson was born near Soldier, Iowa on October 11, 1915, to parents Olius and Bertha (Evenson) Olson. She grew up in the Soldier are and attended country school. On February 23, 1938 she married Leonard "Hap" Heistand. The couple farmed near Dunlap, Iowa. Hap died in September of 1985. Edith moved into town in July of 1986.

Edith was a member of St John's Lutheran Church Dunlap, Iowa. She was active with the ladies groups there and the Busy Neighbor Club. She was confirmed at the Soldier Lutheran Church. She loved her flowers, her lawn, to dance, baking and Cardinal birds.

Edith died Wednesday, December 24th, 2003 at Dunlap Care & Rehab Center at the age of 88 years, two months and 13 days.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter Sharon, two sons Dave in February of 1987 and Terry in June of 1997, three brothers Virgil, Russell and Lyle and a sister Ethel Hartwig. She is survived by two daughters Carolyn and her husband Larry Phillips, Belle Vista, AR; Cheryl and her husband Randy Rath, Denison, IA; son Tom and his wife Joan Heistand, Dunlap, IA; daughter-in-laws Marvel Heistand, Dow City, IA; Beth and her husband Rollie Roberts, Dunlap, IA; sister Irene Pedersen, Denison, IA; brother Raymond Olson, Denison, IA. is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service at St John's Lutheran Church at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 27th, with Rev. Carla Ingebretsen officiating.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery Dunlap, Iowa.

Visitation begins Friday 12:00 Noon and Family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 - 8:30 PM at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap.
