Ernest "Ernie" Arthur Stueve was born August 19, 1935, to Harold and Agnes (Aughe) Stueve in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He attended several country schools around Missouri Valley and Modale. The family moved to a farm east of Logan in 1951. Ernie attended Logan High School his junior and senior year and graduated in 1953. Ernie joined the Iowa National Guard and served from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1963. Ernie started farming at the age of 10 due to his father's health. He was also a substitute rural mail carrier and picked up Grade B milk. Ernie married Nancy Leaders on Mother's Day, May 8, 1960. The couple farmed until December 1964. Ernie then ran a corn sheller and drove truck for Lyle McCain and Lynn Dow. He then managed Lynn's business until he and Nancy started their own trucking business in 1966. Ernie and Nancy then went into partnership with Allen and Ed. Ed and Julie purchased the family business when Ernie retired in 2011.

Ernie was baptized, confirmed and was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley in 1961. In 1965 he transferred his membership to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan. He has served as an elder and also as a director for the REC for nine years each. In 1953, Ernie started playing in a dance band. Then he formed the Ernie Stueve Orchestra and continued playing for 35 years; his brother Kenneth played with him and for the last 10 years Ernie's son, Ed, played with him.

Ernie died on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 80 years, nine months, and 18 days.
