Esther Julia Mowinkel Brewer was born May 15, 1916, in Gretna, Nebraska to Will Albert and Kathryn Henrietta (Brey) Mowinkel.  She grew up in the Gretna, Nebraska, Ava and Sarcoxie, Missouri areas.  She attended country school in Missouri.  Esther moved to Omaha, Nebraska and worked at Tip Top Manufacturing, Omar Bakery and she packaged meat at Safeway while living in Omaha.  Esther married Glenn Brewer in 1954. The couple moved to Logan, Iowa in 1965 and in 1966 they moved to Woodbine.  Esther ran a restaurant in the back of the Corn Palace and the Sandwich Shop in Woodbine.  She also worked at the Nuclear Plant in Fort Calhoun for a short time.  Glenn died in 1978.
   
   Esther was a member of the Christian Church.  She enjoyed being outside in her garden or fishing. While she was inside she enjoyed embroidery work, baking and crocheting.  She also loved to play bingo and try her luck at the casinos.
   
   Esther died Monday, January 10, 2005, at Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa attaining the age of 88 years, seven months, and 26 days.
   
   Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant children Jimmy and Joanne; and brother Alvin Mowinkel.  She is survived by four children, William Brewer and his wife Lana of Omaha, Nebraska, Linda and her husband George Negrete of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ronald Lemm of Omaha, Nebraska, and Patty and her husband Marvin Kelley of Woodbine, Iowa; sister Arlene Whaley of Seattle, Washington, 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
