Evelyn Mitchell

Evelyn Virginia (Koski) Mitchell was born on March 22, 1911 in Monona County near Dunlap, Iowa to parents Thomas and Carrie (Kessler) Koski. Her mother died when she was seven years old. She attended country school and Dunlap High School. On November 29, 1928, she married Alfred Mitchell at the Dunlap Methodist Church Parsonage. The couple farmed west of Dunlap for one year then moved north of Dunlap to Alfred's family farm. In 1944 they purchased the family farm and continued farming it until 1975 when they moved into Dunlap. Alfred died on July 20, 1988.
Evelyn was a member of the Dunlap United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She had been active with the Hill Valley Club. She enjoyed her vegetable garden, her flower garden, family gatherings, sewing, playing cards and dancing.
Evelyn died on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 94 years, eight months and 26 days.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Howard, John, Lloyd, Ralph and Thomas; sister, Blanche Smith; son-in-law, Leo P. Sullivan; grandsons, Robert William Mitchell and Leo A. Sullivan; and great great grandson, Kobie C. Garner. She is survived by her four children, Robert & Rosanna Mitchell, Norma Sullivan, Phyllis & Fritz Klein and Charles & Sally Mitchell all of Dunlap, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Jean & Jim White of Pharr, Texas and JoEllen & Donald Klein of Dunlap, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
