Evelyn Ruth Sherer was born on July 16, 1926, to William and Esther (Goeke) Behrends in Diller, Nebraska. She was the youngest of 11 children. She went to school and graduated from Diller. On December 15, 1946, in the middle of a blizzard, Evelyn was united in marriage to Paul Sherer. They lost a daughter, Jeanette Kay at birth, and then had three boys, Michael, Daniel and Robert. Evelyn was an amazing wife and mother. She took pride in caring for her family. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Griffith Transfer. Evelyn was also a member of the Pisgah Community of Christ Church.
Evelyn loved to tend to her garden. She also enjoyed quilting and playing cards. She loved funnel cakes and was an avid Kansas City Royals fan. Most of all, Evelyn loved her God and her family.
Evelyn died on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Azria Health Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 21 days.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Sherer; infant daughter, Jeanette Kay; son, Robert Sherer; sisters, Marie Andersen, Della Andersen, Bertha Sherkolk, Esther Sherer and Wilamena Michaels; and brothers, Bernard Behrends, John Behrends, Ed Behrends, Art Behrends and Henry Behrends. She is survived by her sons, Mike Sherer and his wife Sherry of Pisgah, Iowa and Dan Sherer and his wife Peggy of Independence, Missouri; grandchildren, Craig, Leslie, Nathan and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Xavier, Wyatt, Madison, Grant, Kalie Ann, Elijah, Josiah, Mollie and Jack; and many other relatives and friends.
