Frederick "Fritz" Laverne Baldwin was on born December 2, 1932, to William and Helen (Berens) Baldwin near Dunlap, Iowa. Fritz was raised near Bayard and Dunlap, Iowa. He attended school in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1951. Fritz proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On August 17, 1953, Fritz married Mary Alice Sullivan at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa. The couple lived in Dunlap. Fritz & Mary Alice owned and operated the Baldwin 640 Club. Fritz also drove a co-op tank wagon and a school bus. He was a town mail carrier and eventually became the post master in Dow City. Fritz also managed the Dunlap Golf Course.

Fritz was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He served as mayor of Dunlap and also was on the volunteer fire and rescue department. Fritz was one of the first EMTs in Dunlap. Fritz loved to socialize and he never knew a stranger. No matter where he went, he would run into someone he knew. Fritz also enjoyed playing cards, the annual fishing trip to Canada, and he loved old cars.

Fritz died Friday, July 29, 2016, at Dunlap Specialty Care Center at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 27 days.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Alice Baldwin on January 23, 2014; son, Jerry Baldwin on September 4, 2014; infant sister, Karen Hunter; and brother, Roger Baldwin. He is survived by his three children, Pam and her husband Ty Ungrad of Neola, Iowa, Larry Baldwin and his wife Sherry of Neola, Iowa, Bill Baldwin and his wife Monica of Longmont, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Denise Baldwin of Dunlap, Iowa; grandchildren, John and Kristen Ungrad, Leah, Ann and Luke Baldwin, Jesse Baldwin, Jeremy (Cassie) Van Arsdol and Nick and Meghan Baldwin; three great grandchildren, Isah, Talan and Lana Van Arsdol; brother, Randy Hunter and his wife Natalie of Tampa, Florida; and many other relatives and friends.
