Gale Oliver

June 13, 1945 — February 23, 2018

Soldier, Iowa

Gale LaVerne Oliver was born June 13, 1945, to Glen and Hazel (Johnson) Oliver in Pisgah, Iowa. Gale grew up in the Pisgah area, attended Pisgah Schools, and graduated in the first class at West Harrison High School in 1963. On February 13, 1965, Gale married Vicki Birdsall at the RLDS Church in Pisgah. To this union five girls were born. The couple lived in Mondamin, Orson and then Little Sioux, Iowa. Gale worked at the Mondamin Coop, Borchman Construction and Vince Bird Construction before retiring at the age of 59. Some of the buildings that Gale helped construct were the old St. Joe/Creighton Hospital, Pottawattamie Courthouse, Gene Leahy Mall and many others.
Gale loved baseball and appreciated that this passion was passed on to his grandchildren. He was a life long Dodgers fan. He also loved his cat, Katie, hunting, fishing, feeding and watching birds, and tending to his garden. He could often be found using his MacGyver skills to fix most anything. No one was ever a stranger and he always had a story to tell. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and never tired of spending time with them. His sense of humor will live proudly through each of them.
Gale died on Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home in Soldier, Iowa at the age of 72 years, eight months and 10 days.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Neva Roden, sisters-in-law, Rosalie Oliver and Mary Woodward; brother-in-law, Bob Patterson. He is survived by his companion, Bonnie Blume of Soldier, Iowa; five daughters, Michelle (Brad) Moore of Soldier, Iowa, Kristi Oliver of Naperville, Illinois, Angela (Kelly) Bothwell of Moorhead, Iowa, Julie (Brent) Kuhman of Moorhead, Iowa and Tara (Danny) Rife of Mondamin, Iowa; step-son, Steve (Michelle) Blume of Sioux City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Warren Oliver of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Gary Oliver of Asheville, North Carolina; sister, Glenice(Bill) Graham of Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers-in-law, Royl (Jane) Roden of Pisgah, Iowa and Bob Woodward of Woodward, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Patterson of Scottsdale, Arizona and Marsha (Phil) Watters of Des Moines, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
