Gary LeRoy Cox, 79, of Dunlap, Iowa died on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the Burgess Medical Center in Onawa, Iowa. Gary was born on June 17, 1936, in Pisgah, Iowa to Dewey and Bertha (Benson) Cox. He grew up in the Pisgah and Moorhead areas and attended country school. He then began farming with his father. Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He served in Germany and was trained as a sniper. On September 18, 1963, Gary married Barbara Stolley. The couple lived and farmed in the Dunlap area. Gary was a welder at Tommy Gate in Woodbine for 20 years, and he retired from there seven years ago.

Gary loved to collect coins, John Deere 4020 and he enjoyed nature. He was always feeding the squirrels, birds and other wildlife. Gary was particularly good at creating metal art.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy Votaw; granddaughter, Laynie Dae Votaw; two infant brothers, Dewey and Keith Cox; and two brothers, Larry and Charles Cox. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Cox of Dunlap, Iowa; two children, Anita Cox and Todd Cox and his wife Lori all of Dunlap, Iowa; son-in-law, Mark Votaw of Wellfleet, Nebraska; four grandchildren; Cassie, Alec, Andrew, and Carson; eight siblings, Donald Cox of Woodbine, Iowa; Darlene Malone of Dunlap, Iowa; Bertha Ellen Morton of Logan, Iowa; Janet Archer of Turin, Iowa; Carolyn (Frank) Archer of Moorhead, Iowa; Ronald (Linda) Cox of New Mexico; Patricia Hardy of Moorhead, Iowa; Stanley (Chris) Cox of St. Louis, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
