Gerald Hubert Klein was born December 7, 1932, to Raymond and Marie (Jacoby) Klein in Earling, Iowa. He was raised near Earling and attended school at St. Joseph's Catholic School. Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955. He then served in the Army Reserves from 1955 – 1963 attaining the rank of corporal. Jerry married Virginia Hanigan on April 23, 1955, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap. The couple farmed near Dunlap their entire married life.

Jerry was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Dunlap Co-Op Board, the Four County Fair Board, and on the Crawford County Extension Board. Jerry loved all aspects of farming, but he particularly loved spending time with his family.

Jerry died November 11, 2016, at Dunlap Specialty Care at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and four days.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Klein; and two sisters-in-law, Betty and Sharon Klein. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Klein of Dunlap, IA; three children, Joe (Jane) Klein of Harlan, IA, Karen (Tom) Staley of Charter Oak, IA, Tom (Mary) Klein of Dunlap, IA; 10 grandchildren, Joseph, Jared, James, Charlotte and Clare Klein, Kelli (Mike) Cameron, Jeni (Mike) Martens, Trisha (Ben) McIntosh, and Amy and Chad Klein; five great grandchildren, Tyler and Blake Cameron, Lane and Landry Martens, and Jack McIntosh; nine siblings, Frances "Fritz" (Phyllis) Klein of Dunlap, IA, Neil Klein of Omaha, NE, Marvin (Dolores) Klein and Duane "Dewey" Klein all of Dunlap, IA, Sharon (Kenneth) Livingston of Denison, IA, Robert "Bob" (Fran) Klein of Dunlap, IA, Janet (Ronald) Seeley of Brookings, SD, Linda Struck of West Des Moines, IA, Judy (Larry) Leinen of Denison, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
