Glennie Waite

Glenn Murray Waite was born June 5, 1925, to Arthur and Ferne (Arnold) Waite in Woodbine, Iowa. He was raised in Woodbine and graduated from the Woodbine High School in 1942. Glennie began farming with his father. On June 7, 1945, Glennie married Betty June Robertson at Betty June's family farm. Over the years Glennie farmed, owned the Champlin Service on the Highway 30, and drove a school bus. In 1966, the family moved to town and Glennie worked as the bus superintendent for the school. Glennie retired from the school in the mid 70s. In 1978, the couple built a house in the country. Betty June died on March 13, 2003.

Glennie was a member of the Community of Christ. He and Betty June loved to go camping. Glennie volunteered on the Woodbine Fire Department for 25+ years. Glennie always had some type of garden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying the airplane, farming, motorcycles, and four wheelers. Glennie enjoyed the Minnesota fishing trips with his family for 50+ years. Glennie also took care of the mowing at the Woodbine Airport for many years. He enjoyed doing stained glass projects. His most current passion was tinkering on his old tractors.

Glennie died on Friday, January 17, 2014, at the Life Care Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, seven months, and 12 days.

Glennie was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty June Waite; great grandson, Mason John Moores; two brothers, Duane and Raymond "Bud" Waite; and three sisters, Helen Tupper, Myrna Lewis and Donna Barry. He is survived by his two sons, Terry Waite and his wife Connie and Ken Waite and his wife Kathy all of Woodbine, Iowa; five grandchildren: Chris, Ryan, Deb, Michelle and Todd; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Waite and Louretta Waite and brother-in-law, Jerry Lewis all of Woodbine, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
