Hazel Mae Cattel was born May 30, 1907, in Clarion, Iowa, to parents John and Eliza (Fox) Cattel. She moved to Woodbine when she was a young girl and attended the Merry Brook School and the Woodbine High School. In May of 1926 she married Alfred Ehlert in Woodbine. The couple farmed in the Woodbine area. Alfred died April 18, 1961. Hazel then moved in with her daughter and lived there for over 40 years.
Hazel was a member of the Methodist Church. She loved flowers and gardening. She made friends very easily and always knew all of her neighbors.
Hazel died Friday, February 20, 2004, at Rose Vista Nursing Home reaching the age of 96 years, eight months, and 21 days.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two infant daughters; son Ronnie Ehlert who died when he was 17 years old; grandson John Waddell; and brother Clifton Cattel. She is survived by her daughter Elaine Waddell of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
