Howard Lewis Young was born October 19, 1909 to George and Mary (Ahart) Young in Woodbine, Iowa.  He grew up in the Woodbine area and attended country school and Woodbine High School.  Howard married Elsie Lizer on August 25, 1928.  The couple farmed in the Woodbine,   Mondamin, and Beebeetown areas. The couple moved to Missouri Valley in 1976.  Howard and Elsie celebrated 73 years together.  She died on January 14, 2002.
   
   
   Howard was a member of the Community of Christ, and he served on various committees including the building committee.  He enjoyed his yard work and bird watching.  Howard also served on the Harrison County Conservation team and won a trip to Arizona in the 1950s.  Howard and Elsie both loved May Day.
  
   Howard died on Monday, May 01, 2006, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa attaining the age of 96 years, six months, and 12 days.
   
   
   Howard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elsie; four sisters, Edna McElwain, Irene Ondrak, Helen Leonard, and Iona Hiller.  He is survived by his children, Rita and her husband Everett Bean of Little Sioux, Iowa, David Young and his wife Joyce of Creston, Iowa, Deanna and her husband Richard Small of Magnolia, Iowa; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
