Irene Cleveland

Irene Gladys (Boe) Cleveland was born January 12, 1918, to John Edward and Lula Mae (Millard) Boe in Woodbine, Iowa. Irene attended school through the 8th grade. Irene married Dewey W. Cleveland on June 4, 1936, at the Logan United Methodist Church Parsonage. The couple farmed in Harrison and Monona Counties. In 1963 they moved into Woodbine and went into business at the C & R Hardware Store. They sold the store in 1979. Dewey died on September 10, 1999.

Irene loved to cook and take care of Dewey. She also enjoyed gardening and telling stories about the early years on the farm. Most of all Irene loved to watch the grandkids grow up and be involved in their lives.

Irene died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 98 years, six months and 21 days.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dewey Cleveland; three sisters, Neva Austin, Betty Boe, and Lila Jackson; and two brothers, Warren and Lawrence Boe. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kay Welander of Jefferson, Iowa; three grandchildren, Wendy (Brad) Bell of Dakar, Senejal, Wynn (Kevin) Dau of Denison, Iowa and Marc (Heather) Welander of Omaha, Nebraska; five great grandchildren, Whitney, Ashley, Payton Goslar and Anna and Luke Welander; one sister, Enid Brown of Escondido, California; and many other relatives and friends.
