John "Jack" Barney Lowrey was born February 21, 1945, to John and Rosina (Jones) Lowrey in Woodbine, Iowa. He was raised near Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1963. John married Lynellen Dahm and the couple was blessed with three children. Jack has farmed his entire life. In 1974 there was a trailer fire that claimed the lives of his two young daughters. Later, his son was adopted by a loving family. For the past 30 years John has struggled with diabetes and its side effects.
Jack had been a member of the Woodbine Saddle Club. He greatly enjoyed giving everyone a nickname. Jack loved to read western books and watch the Chicago Cubs. He also was the announcer for local horse shows and helped with the youth fishing contest. Jack was well known for making delicious donuts with his mom and his brother.
Jack died on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Creighton Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 70 years, two months, and 28 days.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Laurie and Raye. He is survived by his son, Aaron Smith; brother, George Lowrey of Woodbine, Iowa; dog, Peabody; and many other relatives and friends.
