Jesse Smith

Jesse Ural Smith was born on December 11, 1975, to Midge Cadwell Carter and Roland Smith. Jesse was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, and he took his first communion and confirmation at St. Mary’s in Portsmouth. Jesse attended school in Trinidad, Colorado, St. Mary’s Catholic School in Panama, and he graduated from Harlan High School in 1995. While in school he was active in FFA and CYO basketball. Jesse enlisted in the Army Reserves his junior year of high school. Jesse had a wonderful work ethic and worked very hard at all he did. Jesse was most recently employed at  Future Foam in Council Bluffs.

Jesse loved hanging out with his brother and his friends. Jesse, Jeremy and David were just like the three musketeers. They were always together. Jesse had three children, Jesse, Tela and Katherine. Due to the poor decisions he made in life, they were adopted by his sister and brother-in-law, Joi and Paul. The last gift that Jesse gave was being a bone and tissue donor.

Jesse died Wednesday, February 27, 2019, in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age 43 years, two months and 16 days.

Jesse was preceded in death by his grandparents, Evelyn and Ural Smith and Lloyd and Margaret Cadwell; step-mother, Phyllis Smith; and step-father, Delles Carter, Jr. He is survived by his parents, Midge Carter of Defiance, Iowa; and Roland Smith of Panama, Iowa; three siblings, Jennifer (Duane) Friend of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Joi (Paul) Schwery of Panama, Iowa, Jeremy Smith of  Defiance, Iowa; special sister, Kim (Mark) Hansen of  Harlan, Iowa; 14 nieces and nephews; one great nephew; one great niece; and many other relatives and friends.
