Jim Archer

James Walter Archer was born December 9, 1926, to Willie Marion and Elsie Rosetta (Lang) Archer in Emerson, Iowa. He was raised in Emerson and attended country school. Jim then started to help on the farm. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. On August 20, 1948, Jim married Donna Thiles at Donna's family's home. The couple lived southeast of Logan at the Archer family farm. Jim farmed for himself and also helped other farmers. Jim drove a bus for many years, for the Missouri Valley School District, the Crusader Charter Bus Lines, and the Southwest Iowa Area Transit. The couple moved to Missouri Valley in 1971. They owned and operated the Sunnyside Motel for 14 years. In 1994 the couple moved to Woodbine.

Jim was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club. He loved spending time with his family. working, visiting and keeping busy.

Jim died Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ed Archer; granddaughter, Lynn Marie Peterson; and five siblings, Cecil, Clarence, and Francis Archer, Creola Crumm and Margie Mathe. He is survived by his wife, Donna Archer of Woodbine, IA; six children, Rosetta (Dave) Peterson of Council Bluffs, IA, Don (Nancy) Archer of Lincoln, NE, Rich (Renee) Archer of Boone, IA, Gary (Barb) Archer of Papillion, NE, Chris (George) Dougherty of Missouri Valley, IA, Amy (Kenard) Swift of Woodbine, IA; daughter-in-law, Kathy Archer of Muscatine, IA; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; step grand and great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; 10 siblings, Erma Cox of Missouri Valley, IA, Adrian (Dorothy) Archer of Logan, IA, Fred (Mary Lou) Archer of Missouri Valley, IA, Darlene Messerschmidt and Evelyn (Marcus) Weigelt all of Missouri Valley, IA, Ocle Sadler of La Crosse, VA, Kenneth (Norma) Archer of Honey Creek, IA, Dean (Pat) Archer of Salado, TX, Faye (Al) Selk of Missouri Valley, IA, Wanda (Don) Kuhlman of Woodbine, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
