James Harold Murray was born March 27, 1939, to Earl and Freda (Cooper) Murray in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He was raised in Missouri Valley and graduated from the Missouri Valley High School in 1957. Jim married Elaine Michael on April 5, 1959. He drove a rock truck for many years and then purchased Logan Auto Supply in 1966. After running this store for 39 years he sold it in 2005 and enjoyed retirement.

Jim was an active member of the Community of Christ in Woodbine. He loved his church and helped with any function that needed help. Jim also loved spending time with his family and going to all the various activities. He enjoyed taking the grandkids to his pond for fishing and boating. At all the family gatherings Jim supplied the soft serve ice-cream for everyone to enjoy. Jim also enjoyed going to Lincoln to watch his two granddaughters, Chelsea and Allison play in the Husker band. He also enjoyed watching Katelyn, Dana, and Darby play basketball. He took great enjoyment in watching Madeline ride her horse and participate in the Special Olympics. Additionally, Jim served on Logan's city council and served two terms as mayor.

Jim died Monday, August 13, 2012, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, four months, and 17 days.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Murray and infant grandsons, Ben and Max Carlin. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Murray of Logan, Iowa; three children, Barb (Dave) Hanen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Annette (Joe) Carlin of Omaha, Nebraska, Steve (Deb) Murray of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Chelsea (Caleb) Kuddes, Allison Hanen, Madeline and Darby Carlin, and Katelyn and Dana Murray; two sisters, Roma (Ron) Beebe of Blair, Nebraska, Kathy (Gary) Michael of Missouri Valley, Iowa; sister-in-law, Diane Murray of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
