Jim Turner

James Martin Turner was born May 10, 1923, to William and Cora (Stevenson) Turner in Dow City, Iowa. He was raised in Dow City and graduated from Dow City High School. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. Following his honorable discharge he worked in Des Moines, Iowa for a while doing clerical work and then returned to Dow City. On August 26, 1947, Jim married Frances Kohles in the Dow City Catholic Church. The couple farmed. In 1964 they moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where Jim worked for a construction company and then the Community Hospital before working at Central Distributing as a salesman. Frances died on December 26, 1997, and Jim returned to Dunlap in 1999.

Jim loved to take care of his yard and his garden. He also enjoyed taking walks.

Jim died on Friday, December 27, 2013, at his nephew's home in Dunlap at the age of 90 years, seven months, and 17 days.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances Turner; son, Bob Turner in February of 2009; and brother, Gerald Turner. He is survived by his two children, Jim W. Turner of Thornton, Colorado, Carol Thompson of Lakewood, Colorado; grandson, Robert Orville Turner of Idaho Springs, Colorado; sister, Helen Hartwig of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
