Joan Carol Fetter was born on January 4, 1935, in Kennard, Nebraska to Max and Carrie (Good) Hansen. Most of her youth was spent in Harrison County where she attended Harmony Country School before entering Logan High School.
Joan loved horses as a girl and she continued her love for them by including them in her lifelong passion of painting. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UNO in her 50’s and was a member of the Cooperative Art Gallery in the Old Market well into later years. Joan was known for her use of vibrant colors and, there, she displayed her art and sold many paintings. She also enjoyed country living, farm life, raising a garden, fixing up properties (with Rex), mowing (up and down the gravel road for hundreds of yards!), spending time with friends after sporting events, working out at the Crew, attending Bible study and getting together with classmates. Joan was adept at Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and she made amazing lemon bars and lemon whip salad and huge, loaded chocolate chip cookies. Like many farm wives back in the day, she prepared incredible fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and homemade pies! Her favorite thing was family. She loved spending time with her grandkids, great grandkids, brothers and their families, as well as cousins and other relatives.
Joan entered eternity on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Azria Health Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa where they treated her extremely well. She was 90 years old and the last of the Max and Carrie Hansen family.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex in 2015; and brothers, Robert, Paul and Gail Hansen. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Alfrey of St. Augustine, Florida and her daughter Margaret and husband Tyler Kalvoda; and son, Kelly Hutson and his wife Fran of Logan and their daughters Ann and husband Matt Fouts, Megan and husband Zach Dieken, Karen and husband Levi Ettleman and son Paul Hutson and wife Kierstyn. Her legacy also includes 13 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Praises to God for giving us a wonderful mother, aunt, grandmother, sister and great grandmother and for giving us the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
