Barbara Joan Ullrich was born September 6, 1936, to John Henry and Clara Jane (Mefferd) Lewis near Dunlap, Iowa. At a young age, Joan and her family moved to Magnolia. She was raised on the family farm near Magnolia and graduated from Magnolia High School. She then started to work at the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska. On July 20, 1957, Joan married Arlen "Butch" Ullrich at the United Methodist Church in Logan. The couple lived in Omaha for eight years and then moved to their farm between Logan and Magnolia in 1965. After her children were all in school Joan began her career at the Harrison County Clerk of Court until her retirement.

Joan's family was first and foremost in her life. She enjoyed going to the various activities of her children and grandchildren. Joan was a wonderful cook and made the holidays very special for her family. She also enjoyed being in a card club and in her retired years she loved reconnecting with her neighbors over coffee. Joan loved to dance, read, travel and she was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Creighton Blue Jay fan. She was a member of the Logan United Methodist Church.

Joan died Friday, October 18, 2013, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha at the age of 77 years, one month and 12 days.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Jane Lewis; two infant siblings; and brother-in-law, Robert Street. She is survived by her husband Butch Ullrich of Logan, Iowa; four children, Jeff (Linda) Ullrich and Mark Ullrich all of Omaha, Nebraska, Steve (Gina) Ullrich of Fort Worth, Texas, Barbara (Bill) Buenz of Edina, Minnesota, five grandchildren, Renee Ullrich, Emily, Meredith and Johnny Buenz, and Lauren Ullrich; brother, Jack (Beba) Lewis of Papillion, Nebraska; sister, Lorraine Street of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
