John Ganzhorn

John Robert Ganzhorn was born on November 19, 1949, to Robert and Betty (Musgrave) Ganzhorn, in Pisgah, Iowa. John graduated from Woodbine High School and then attended electronic school in Tennessee for the Navy.  He was stationed at the San Diego Miramar Base where he served for four years. John then moved back to Woodbine and started farming and working at Foodland, where his smile was seen for 47 years. John was married to Peggy (Pruitt) Ganzhorn from 1970 to 1994, and two children, Vicki and Julie, were born to this union. On August 20, 2002, he married the love of his life, Ellen Fisher, in Logan, Iowa. They were truly in life together and were always on the same page. There were no mountains too high for them.

John loved farming. He was a good farmer and took it very seriously. His trucks and tractors were always spotless.  He cherished the times he was able to give grandchildren and other family members  tractor and gator rides. John was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed seeing them succeed. He also loved his dog, Gracie, and took her everywhere with him. John truly had a heart of gold.

John died on October 29, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa attaining the age of 69 years, 11 months and ten days.

John was preceded in death by his parents; He is survived by his wife, Ellen Ganzhorn of Woodbine; children, Vicki Ganzhorn of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Julie and Matt Harman of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Crystal and Jon Shaffer of Panora, Iowa, and James “Bud” and Rachel Flaitz of Woodbine, Iowa; nine grandchildren; sister, Deb and Bruce Bloom of Elkhorn, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
