John James Walsh was born on June 16, 1979, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Dennis and Annette (Solon) Walsh. He grew up in Missouri Valley and attended St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School through eighth grade, moving to Missouri Valley High School after, where he graduated in 1997. John participated in many sporting events in his younger years including wrestling, football, soccer, and baseball. He also spent many years in the BSA program, where he obtained the highest rank of Eagle Scout, camping and working on community projects. From an early age, John was very inquisitive about how things were made and ultimately took up carpentry and construction. He took pride in working with his hands and especially enjoyed pointing out work he had done in the past. Most of all, John cherished the time that he spent with his daughter Kaitlyn. He enjoyed attending her dance recitals and sporting events when she was younger. More recently, John was thrilled to become a grandpa to Kaitlyn’s daughter, Paisley.
John was the kind of person who everyone loved to be around. His strength, compassion, and determination made him one of a kind. John truly enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, often camping, playing Euchre, bowling, participating in dart leagues, and many more activities – but his main passion was golf. He could be found on the golf course as often as possible, playing in tournaments, including couples’ tournaments with his fiancé, Bria. If he wasn’t playing golf, he was sure to be cheering on Iowa State, Notre Dame, or the Jets. Win or lose, he is always stuck with his teams. His humor and thoughtful presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
After a long battle with heart disease, John died on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at his home in Logan, Iowa, at the age of 46 years, nine months, and 24 days.
John is survived by his parents; daughter, Kaitlyn and her husband Garret Thompson of Logan; fiancé, Bria Lally of Logan; brother, Jason Walsh and Amanda Joyce of Woodbine; granddaughter Paisley Dolores Thompson; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family, as they will be placing a bench at the Logan-Missouri Valley Country Club in memory of John.
