John Zimmer

John Gerald "Bud" Zimmer, Jr. was born on July 3, 1928 in Buck Grove, Iowa to John and Ida (Wilke) Zimmer, Sr. Bud was raised on the family farm north of Earling. Bud attended country school and St. Joseph Catholic School graduating in 1945. He enlisted in the US Army on February 19, 1951. He was honorably discharged on February 7, 1953. He moved back home to help his parents farm the family farm and raise livestock. In addition to farming, he traveled selling Hay Grinders for Jones Manufacturing and ground hay for local farmers. After a tractor accident in 2006, he moved to Dunlap, Iowa
Bud was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling and attended the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap. Member of Earling American Legion Post # 615 and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, loved Christmas music and Christmas lights. He had a passion for raising cattle and for the warm weather.
Bud died on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 85 years, four months and two days.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, brother Art Zimmer, two sisters, Marie Freund and Helen Freund, dear friend, Maxine Schiltz. Survived by his sister, Delphine "Gussie" Molony of Harlan, Iowa; nieces and nephews; dear friends, Penni Spongberg of Omaha, Nebraska and her children, Allie, David and Danny Spongberg and Cari and Jason Segebart of Defiance, Iowa and their children, Jonathan, Cody and Samantha and many other relatives and friends.
